How it works

Headland Electrical Solutions will carry out an assessment of your property and electrical system to determine the feasibility of the installation and any necessary upgrades.

We will also need to install a dedicated circuit and a charging point at a suitable location, such as a garage or driveway.

Once the installation is complete, you will need to register for a government grant to help cover the cost of the installation. The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) provides up to £350 towards the cost of installing an EV charger at home.

With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, more and more homes are opting for home EV charging solutions.

EV Chargers: Energy Consumption

EV chargers do consume energy, but the amount of energy they use depends on the charger's power output, charging speed, and the amount of time your vehicle is connected to the charger.

Most EV chargers use a charging output of between 3kW to 22kW. The lower powered 3kW chargers will use less energy, while the higher powered 22kW chargers will use more energy. For instance, a 7kW charger used to fully charge an electric car with a 40kWh battery will typically consume around 30kWh of electricity.

It is worth noting that home EV chargers are designed to manage energy use efficiently. Some models can be programmed to operate at specific times, and some will have load management features to prevent the charger from drawing too much power from your electrical supply.

Using a home battery storage system can also be beneficial to manage energy use. By storing energy when it is cheaper, you can use it to power your EV when energy costs are higher, reducing your overall energy consumption and bills.

In summary, while a home EV charger does use energy, their energy consumption can be managed efficiently with the right charging unit and additional equipment.

They came and did the work as requested, did all the testing as required and issued us with the certificates. The guys were also very tidy and left the place as when they arrived.
