What is a Rewire?
Rewires involve replacing all or part of a property’s electrical system to bring it up to modern standards, ensuring safety, efficiency and compliance with current regulations. There are two primary types we offer throughout Exeter and its surrounds:
- Full Rewires: A complete replacement of all electrical wiring, sockets, switches and consumer units within a property.
- Partial rewires: A targeted upgrade of specific areas, such as a kitchen, extension or high-risk circuits, without replacing the entire electrical system.
Rewires are essential for both safety and performance, preventing hazards such as electrical fires and system failures.
When is a Rewire Necessary?
Recognising when rewires are called for can prevent serious electrical faults. Our electricians recommend assessing the condition of your wiring regularly, especially in older properties or commercial premises in and around Exeter. Common signs that a rewire may be on the cards include:
- Frequent Electrical Tripping or Blown Fuses – This could indicate overloaded or outdated wiring.
- Burning Smells or Discoloured Sockets & Switches – Signs of overheating, which can lead to electrical fires.
- Old-fashioned Fuse Boxes – Older installations may not comply with current safety standards.
- Insufficient Sockets – If extension leads and adaptors are required regularly, it may be time for an upgrade.
- Dated Rubber, Lead or Fabric-insulated Cables – These materials are unsafe and should be replaced with modern PVC-insulated wiring.
If you suspect your property requires a full or partial rewire, our expert electricians can conduct an inspection and provide a tailored recommendation.
